Historic Home Makeover

  • Summary of Challenge: The client wanted to renovate the landscape in preparation for the 100-year anniversary of their historic home. They needed a landscape that coordinated with the Swiss craftsman style of home. The existing landscape was established, overgrown, and on a sloped lot. The client requested several different uses to be included throughout the space such as entertaining, relaxing, growing edibles and of course, beauty to enjoy throughout the year.
  • Summary of Solution: Using a design, by Exterior Spaces LLC, we installed a garden that uses natural elements to tie into the architecture of the home. A large water feature, complete with koi fish, was installed as the focal piece of the backyard. Several retaining walls and paths serve to create a useable area to explore and relax in. A stone patio with custom pergola provide a wonderful sitting and dining atmosphere. A series of raised beds and in-ground herb gardens provide fresh edibles. A wide variety of plants is highlighted at night by a low-voltage light system. A small patch of synthetic turf gives the dog a place to call home while several areas of natural lawn complement the rest of the garden. There’s even a secret garden that we can’t tell you about.
