Backyard Retreats and Private Oases

June 02, 2020

Relaxing in a hammock swaying in a summer breeze. Lounging on the patio listening to tiki rhythms or soft jazz. Enjoying the sounds of a bubbling waterfall. Sharing a romantic evening outdoors by the fire. Ah, wouldn’t it be nice to get away? Of course it would! But since most of us can’t just flit off to an island or mountain retreat on a whim, how about bringing the resort feeling home instead?

Creating a private oasis in your own back yard is easier than you think and doesn’t require a huge plot of land to pull it off. In fact, size is not the most important consideration. What matters is how you use your space and what special features you can add to create an inviting backyard retreat you never want to leave. Whether it’s a secluded garden hideaway, an outdoor kitchen or dining space, meandering paths and footbridges, a fireside lounge, water features, or even an inground pool or spa, it can be created in your yard. All it takes is a little imagination and know-how – something our landscape designers have in spades!

We’ve transformed yards of all shapes, sizes, and terrains, from the simple to the complex. The one thing they’ve all had in common: each was an expression of the homeowner’s idea of the perfect backyard retreat. So, that’s where we always start – with your ideas. What are the elements and special features you want? How do you want to use the space? What is your style? If you’re not sure, that’s ok, there are a lot of resources to turn to for inspiration.

To help get you dreaming about all the possibilities, and discover what appeals to you, we suggest browsing garden magazines and design websites such as Pinterest or Houzz. Take a stroll or drive through the neighborhood and see what catches your eye. You can also take a look at our photo gallery to see some of the projects we’ve completed and note your favorites.

While you’re dreaming, put pencil to paper, and start working on a budget. There are many things to consider, but a good place to start is simply making a list of everything you want in your design. What are “must-have” features and what are “nice to have” elements? This will help you and your designer hammer out the details. Keep in mind that permits and fees may be required, so be sure to ask about this when you meet with a landscape contractor.

Our teams at Landscape East & West will take the time to figure out and record all the design details while involving you in the entire process. This means you’ll get exactly what you want in your backyard retreat. We’ll also work with our network of the Northwest’s top landscape designers to bring you a safe, practical, and environmentally-friendly design that our crews will build and install with the top-notch workmanship that Landscape East & West exemplifies.

So, if you’ve been dreaming of your own private get-away, contact us today. We’d love to bring that vacation feeling into your yard.
