April 15, 2011

Homeownblossoming treeers who are looking for some landscaping design inspiration, or just a taste of long-awaited spring, can visit the 57th Annual Hood River Valley Blossom Festival this weekend.

Take a scenic drive through the Hood River Valley to soak in the explosion of fruit tree blossoms, enjoy local crafts and cuisine, and sample the wines and beers of the gorge during the festival April 16-17.

“The Blossom Festival is a perfect opportunity for the winter-weary to visit the Hood River Valley for a dose of Oregon’s springtime sunshine,” the event website says.

The Hood River Valley produces half of the nation’s winter pear crop and features an abundance of cherry and apple orchards. Event guides for the festival are available at roadside stands between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., including a 47-mile Blossom Festival tour route for self-guided vehicle tours of the valley. Several farms along the route will be offering special blossom-related activities.
