Spring Cleaning for Your Yard

April 15, 2026

Spring is the reset button for your landscape. How you approach your yard now sets the tone for the entire growing season. This is not the time to simply hope for the best, but rather the perfect time to contact Landscape East & West.

Hiring professional landscapers for your spring yard work isn’t just about convenience. It can make a noticeable difference in how your outdoor space looks and functions, and even increase its value. A well-maintained and thoughtfully designed landscape can boost your home’s curb appeal along with its market value. It’s one of the first things people notice.

While it may be tempting to grab a rake and shovel and get your hands dirty on a beautiful spring day, the long-term success of your landscape should really be left in the hands of a professional.

Spring landscaping isn’t just mowing and planting. The professionals at Landscape East & West understand soil conditions, plant health, pruning timing, and local climate patterns. We can spot issues such as poor drainage, pests, or diseases before they become costly problems.

Through our many decades of working in the greater Portland area, we know which plants will grow best in this climate and can make sound recommendations for what will work best in your yard. We take the time to determine sun and shade areas, soil conditions, drainage patterns, and more, so what’s planted has the highest rate of not just surviving but of thriving.

Let’s get to the basics. A professional landscape team comes prepared for anything with the proper equipment. There’s no need for you to invest in an aerator, hedge trimmer, or lawn mower, not to mention finding the place to store all of them. We have top-of-the-line tools ready to go in our trucks whenever needed, including electric leaf blowers to comply with Portland’s new environmental regulations banning gas-powered models.

Consider not just equipment, but also your time. Especially for spring clean-up, debris removal, edging, mulching, trimming, and planting can take hours if not days. Who has that kind of extra time in a week, and, really, that much ambition? Properly caring for a landscape is a commitment, not just a weekend to-do item to check off the list.

Here’s some of what we’ll do for you.

For spring care, we start by clearing away winter’s leftovers. Dead or damaged plant material, fallen branches, and debris are removed from the grounds. Soil pH is tested to ensure optimal growth, and compost or organic matter is added as needed. Compacted soils are also loosened to allow for better root growth.

Continuing on the ground, we’ll address your lawn, which will need a gentle wake -up. To accomplish this, we’ll rake to remove thatch and debris, aerate, apply a slow-release fertilizer, and overseed any thin patches that have developed.

Higher up in the trees and shrubs, broken branches are cut back, and shrubs are shaped. Getting rid of the old helps to improve airflow and reduce the risk of fungal problems. As we go, we’ll also inspect all growth for any signs of disease, pests, or winter damage, and we’ll pull any weeds before they have a chance to start taking over your beds.

Spring is the prime planting season, and together we’ll decide on any new plants and flowers to refresh your yard for the season. Our professionals can recommend plants that will grow best in your specific environment and will consider color balance, bloom time, and layout for a landscape design that will look good all season and not just for a few weeks. We don’t just look at planting beds; we can also help you fill your planters and window boxes to add strategic pops of color throughout the season.

And it wouldn’t be spring if we didn’t give irrigation systems a checkup to ensure they’re ready for the warm, dry weather. Sprinklers and drip systems will be inspected, spray patterns adjusted for better coverage, and a watering schedule will be set.

Having a beautiful landscape requires regular care. When you sign up for our maintenance program, that care becomes our responsibility, and we treat each yard as if it were our own. Your home is assigned a specific day, a regular crew foreman, and a crew that remains consistent throughout each visit. There are many parts to a landscape, and when we ready your outdoor space for a busy summer season, we take the time to address every one of them.

Landscape East & West’s experienced landscape designers and maintenance crews are ready to tackle what the winter left behind and leave you with a yard that not only has brilliant blooms but is ready to accommodate a long growing season.
